Yes I Speak in Riddles…

"…is wanting to say something really profound.... but you would never really get it.... not right now... I think... so I remain quiet and hope u get it without hearing it.... someday... damn am I philosophical or what…? Maybe time for a really confusing blog... or maybe I should just go to bed... LMAO!”

That’s my current Facebook status. “Why?” you may wonder, but I just can’t tell! Some words need to remain unspoken for your own sake and that of others! It takes quite a strength of will. Not because of the truth of what might be spoken, but because of the fear of what reaction it might cause in others. Maybe the time isn’t right, maybe a person isn’t ready to hear it, or maybe the circumstances are all wrong! Patience is a virtue, but to me it’s a bother, because as a Scorpio I make up my mind in a jffy - and there it is - stuck in a loop of ever repeating thoughts.  It’s kind of OCD, actually… It’s hard not to be able to share my clearly made up mind with others. All because of false misconceptions and even my own assumptions. Who knows, maybe what I have to say, or think in this case, may be the solution to all my problems LOL!

Yet, I hesitate… Sometimes I wish people of all walks and signs would get this, but they don’t!  Scorpios love scientific facts before they take anything for granted, and even then, they want something to back facts up! Decisions… this mindset often leaves us indecisive…. Why chose from facts that we have no proof for…?!
At the same time we cling to truths and hopes of things to come. Intuition is a big factor, but its hard to go by that with close friends because we rather deny flaws , than see what we don’t want to see…

Well I am quite outspoken, but some things… well I don’t want to hurt someone, or give them hope or  make them hate or love me, just because of some things I write.  I care that much! Sometimes I do it anyway… I am an oxymoron, there you go! LOL

I will not ever expect you to understand me, unless you are a Scorpio like me! Just that much I love just as much as I hate  when I do, but since hate doesn’t serve anyone, I refrain from it. As much as I am a down to earth realistic person, I am a dreamer, a visionary! It starts with dreams, goes on with plans, employs great efforts, and then succeeds. There is not option for failure and integrity is mandatory, if it shall come to pass! If anyone negative gets in my way, they get ignored or dropped… or I use them to enhance my will to rebel, to make things happen despite of them…
I have a great sense of justice… though I don’t want to be the one to judge!
One of my mottos is definitely “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer” don’t me mistaken - I may seem completely unengaged, but I am an observer like no other.  When they say, Scorpios are secretive…. that’s what they talk about. We only share what we find is necessary at that time. If we share a lot you still haven’t heard the half of it!

If you really want to understand someone like me, you better have an IQ of 120+ and the ability to think in an abstract way LOL! Mine is quite a bit higher per most recent test, if you were wondering ;)

I may seem cold, aloof and like I am not paying much attention at times. But it’s really selective hearing and most of the time I will be able to repeat things back to you that you think I never heard! And by the way, I am the most loyal creature you ever met… just saying! Forgive me for who I am and you will have the best friend you ever met! Even if I  don’t always disclose all that is on my mind…. And I love my friends like there is no tomorrow! Just don’t ever get on my bad side….

A Quick Reminder to Companies Helping Boise River Volunteers (BRV)

Lately we have been looking for more donations, since we are entirely self-sponsored and hope to continue to clean up places during the winter season, and fix up our floating equipment. The last car wash brought a little money, mostly through a couple of new memberships at $20 each, but we continue to have to ask the public for more help. We are trying to set up donation jars to support our cause and raise awareness for river and pond conservation.

I was able to set up a donation jar at By-Rite and Lube One in Emmett. Please come and visit our sponsoring and donating companies by buying and shopping there! Leave a small donation and sign up on our website at riverhelpers.com or find Boise River Helpers on Facebook. We appreciate any help we can get, no matter if its cash, items or new volunteers!

Thank you, kindly!

A Good Friend is Worth More Than Their Weight in Gold!

A Good Friend is Worth More Than Their Weight in Gold!

There are many definitions of friend, but when you have someone that doesn’t judge you, understands you, comforts you, even when they themselves are down and shares their possessions with you, no questions asked, you might have found a real friend! When you can trust each other and talk about everything, be there for each other in times of need and share connections to get ahead in life, regardless of your own benefit, that’s true friendship. Friends that may be miles apart or aren't talking all that often, because life happens, but pick up right where they left off when they get back together can be best friends. When you spiritually and intellectually connect and share common values, you really have a chance at keeping that wonderful friendship for life!

I am blessed enough to have one female friend who is just like that, but I know that I have found yet another close friend, and we truly feel like we’re sisters, just born to different moms!
There are times, when I remember the abundance that exists in my life, even when things look bleak.
Oftentimes, it has been recommended to write down a list of things you are grateful for every day to enhance your abundance thinking. I think it is a great idea to do that at least once in a while. I have done it and it helped me a lot!

Today, I feel extremely grateful for having quite a few friends I can trust, but these two particular soul sisters of mine deserve special mentioning here! You have done all the above for me and more! You know who you are! ;) You both start with K, one lives in my town the other one in Boise ;) Love you!

Remember your Dreams

Dreams can have profound meanings in your current life and often help process events the mind couldn't properly deal with in the awake state. A lot of people have a hard time remembering their dreams once they wake up, though.

There are a variety of helpful methods that will help you retain the memories from your dream:

  • Remain in bed with your eyes closed or partially closed. Refrain from turning on artificial light and try to regain hold of the pictures that played in your mind just moments ago. As soon as light enters your eyes, your body starts to wake up and the dream disappears from your conscious memory.
  • Reminisce and recall consciously what you saw in your dream with your eyes closed. Re-trace the steps or events of our dream in your mind.
  • Avoid distraction from the dream right after getting up (including radio, TV, talking about something else, kids, etc.). If you direct your attention to anything but your dream, you won’t be able to concentrate on the dreamlike pictures the dream left behind, as they quickly fade away as other thoughts enter your mind.
  • Write it down as soon as possible. For me, writing something down helps me to put single thoughts into a big picture. In this case, it helps me to recall further details of my dream, as I write along. My dream literally flows out of my mind onto the paper.
  • Tell someone about it without interruption. Sometimes it helps to tell about your dream, as if it was a story. Other people may even ask you questions about details of your dream that you did not remember or realize. They are more likely to float to the surface of your mind and create new and additional meaning, when answering questions.
  • Use a dictation device or voice recorder to record your impressions, feelings and sensations. Some people like to put the pictures they saw into words and tell about them. If you don’t happen to have anyone around to talk to about your dream, try this effective method!
  • Paint a picture of the dream, and the impressions you had in your dream. Some people have an easier time remembering images than words. This method seems to be quite helpful to kids.
  • Find the main aspects of your dream in a dream interpretation book. Finding one word quickly leads to others and helps you remember the remaining context of the dream.

Mind over Matter

The mind can make the body do incredible things. I have heard many stories about people saving other people's lives by lifting immensely heavy items like cars or huge cement pipes off people that were injured and almost crushed by stuff like that falling on top of them.
My own story from long ago is not nearly as impressive, but it makes a point and a humorous one at that! =)

When I first came to the United States, I was very impressed by the sheer size of grocery and department stores. While I might have seen 15 or 20 different types of cereal in German stores, now I was overwhelmed with a whole isle! I also found it interesting that in America there was a way to get more for your money, if you buy in bulk. Just think of the “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” signs all over our stores.
Pretty soon I also stumbled over the slogan “Bigger and Better in America” and was thoroughly convinced that the statement was true, based on my observations in those grocery isles.

Well, one sunny day, soon after our arrival in Idaho, after my (now former) father-in-law had jokingly briefed me about what great potatoes you could get in Idaho, my ex-husband took me to a local grocery store. He went to get a few non-food items, leaving me in the produce section of the store to purchase what was needed to prepare our meals.

And there they were, as big as 2 men’s fists, “Idaho Russet Potatoes”. I was impressed! There were some small bags, off to the side, but my gaze fell upon eight to ten huge paper bags stacked on top of each other, with a large sign sticking out from between them, announcing the price: $2.29. I could not believe it! Actually it read:

Idaho Russet Potatoes
10 lbs.
$2.29

Having just arrived from Germany, my metric measurements and conversions of weights were still a bit thrown off by the American system of inches, feet, ounces and pounds. In addition, German grocers sell most produce items in kilograms. A kilogram is just over 2 American pounds.

When I saw that sign, for some reason I thought “10 kilograms” (not pounds, like the sign read in reality) would have to be a rather large amount of potatoes, despite the fact that those bags of potatoes were indeed enormously big! Have you ever heard of Germans being quite stubborn? Well, in my mind this was an awesome deal, and I had to have it! For a moment I regretted that unlike in Germany, we did not have a cellar to store all those delicious golden rounds and resigned to only buying one of the big brown paper bags.

With a bit of effort I managed to lift the whole gargantuan bag into my shopping cart, right before my ex-husband approached. Skeptically, he glanced at my “bargain” and asked me what in the world we should do with all these potatoes; after all they would last us for weeks, if not months? I explained that the potatoes were a steal at only $2.29 and that there was no way I would let this deal pass me by! He looked at the price sign and a grin about as huge as the sac of potatoes I had just lifted into the cart, spread on his face: “Petra, that is not a 10 pound bag!” I went on to show him a label on the paper bag itself.

It stated:
10 lb bag, Russet potatoes, Individual price $2.29.

I said, “If they write this on the bag, it must be true!” He shook his head in disbelief, remembering that I weighed only about 115 pounds myself at that time: “And you lifted that into the cart, all by yourself?” I answered: “Of course!”

My ex-husband must have been genuinely tickled by my persistence and let me precede to the cash register. The clerk was equally surprised at my intention of buying this massive bag of potatoes. She could not find the price on the paper bag, and I decided to point it out to her. “Oh, no”, she said, “This is the price for a 10 pound bag!” She continued to open one side of the paper enclosure to reveal – not one or two, but FIVE - 10 pound bags of potatoes in the paper wrapper! I had convinced my mind that I was only lifting 10 pounds of weight – as I had many times before, just with a little less effort – and had inadvertently lifted a whopping FIFTY pounds of golden Russet potatoes into the tall shopping cart!

I did not get the deal I had hoped for, but about 8 months later, during a job interview to become a management trainee at a popular furniture store, the recruitment director asked me to tell him a story about something interesting that happened to me. I still don’t know why told him this story – but I got the job! Later he told me, that the potato story set me apart from all other applicants, because it showed that when challenged, I would do whatever it takes to achieve my goal! But that’s just how I am – you see, Germany has great potatoes – and people, too!

A Theory on The Protective Powers of Crystals and Gem Stones

The Ancient Need for Shelter and Protection

When you ask any survival expert, they will tell you that the most important and 1st thing you should do in case of an emergency, i.e. being stranded in an unfriendly environment, is finding a shelter. A person cannot usually survive more than 3 hrs in excessive heat or cold. Therefore shelter is imperative to ensure at least a basic amount of protection.

It’s somewhat curious that most ancient shelters were dug into the ground unless caves were available as a natural shelter. Earth and rocks in that way served as a protective measure from the very start of humankind. No wonder that when the first semi-precious stone showed their beautiful “inside” when it cracked open, mankind felt that it contained some mysterious power that served to protect them in a very special way, just like the rock that surrounded them and made up a fairly safe home.

How Rocks Relate to All Kinds of Protection

Besides protection from forces of nature (shelter/clothing), a human being also requires protection from animals of prey and any other enemies that can threaten his or her life (also shelter/fire/weapons), protection from demise by dehydration (water) and starvation (food), but also protection from loneliness in the long run, because humans need company and human touch or they will wither away (family and friends).

Do you realize that even fire was made by using flint stone, that weapons and tools were made from stones like obsidian, and that statues, which served fertility rituals and the like, were carved from rocks like soap stone? The first accounts of the daily life of ancient tribes and civilizations were recorded on the rock walls of caves. Sand, pebbles and rocks are transported by nature through a naturally occurring life-giving liquid – water – in all of its molecular forms, such as rivers and glaciers. Rock salt has for a long time spiced up our life, as well.

In conclusion, rocks have been one of the most prevailing parts of human history and signify our most vital need for protection.

Protection from Harm, Evil Doings and Spells

Another thing that comes to mind is that since ancient times human have worn protective jewelry and carried protective charms to ward off evil. Maybe it was the shiny surfaces, the vivid colors or the light certain gemstones seemed to hold within. Maybe the changes that carrying the stones seemed to cause in the owners life made all the difference. Or perhaps, the ancient people were able to notice a certain confidence, a distinct vibration or a particular energy the stones seem to expel. These beautiful rocks rapidly gained great value for those that possessed them and those that didn’t.

Our Planet "Earth"

Lastly, I wonder about the composition of other planets. Ours, with all its wonderful gemstones and rocks, is the only life-sustaining planet in this galaxy we know of to date. Somewhat curious!

"Why I Am The Best For This Position!" - Humorous Application as a "Verbal Acrobat" =)

I am the best for the creative writing position, because I am a verbal acrobat. I balance between vocabulary and grammar, sentence structure and punctuation. I spread my knowledge step by step, putting one foot in front of the other. I walk the thin line between mediocreness and greatness as I read between the lines of my resources, extracting a wealth of information to impress the minds of my audience.

I aspire to new heights with every new writing venture, swinging from subject to subject in constant motion; not letting fear get the best of me when my hands let go of a proven method and courageously grip hold of new ideas and somersault in an act of defiance of the conventional.

Every second is precious and time ticks by, as I prepare for each new expression my hands will allow. I hold my breath, as I perform acts that turn upside-down the gravity of the minds of many and show my enormous skills, regardless of others expectations and misconceptions, awaiting their applause and critique alike. When I finally return to normalcy and still see standing ovations, I know: I am indeed a world-class literary people pleaser!

Pet Shelter Pets

As part of my work as a developmental therapist I take kids to the local pet shelter a couple times a week to teach them how to deal with animals and volunteer a bit. In the process I get to know all the animals’ names and antics. If it was an option for me, I would adopt more than just my cat "Mittens" who became part of my family a few months back. These animals long for companionship and affection just as much as any human.
Pet shelter pets are being neutered and taken care of until they find a new owner, but many of them have been at the shelter for many months, even years! Pet shelters have trouble getting adequate funding and supplies and volunteers are few and in between.

My beloved former shelter cat "Mittens". She had been at the local shelter for more than a year before we adopted her.

Before getting a new pet, you should consider a few alternative options:

  • You might not have enough time to spend with your pet

Volunteering is a good alternative to owning a pet, if you are not home much. A pet shelter is the ideal place to spend short amounts of time with pets at irregular intervals. The dogs and cats greatly enjoy the company, the love, the exercise, feeding and grooming you can assist with!

  • Your income may not support the cost of living for a new pet

Pets can be expensive. Table scraps are not an ideal food source for pets, and you should be able to provide sufficient nutrition for your new dog or cat. Your pet also may require bedding, toys, and a leash. Not to mention the cost of regular vet checkups, shots and medical bills in case of injuries and sickness.
At the very least you might want to first foster a new dog or cat and “test-drive” you new life as a pet owner before committing to buying or adopting a pet.

  • Your living space may not accommodate a pet

A lot of rental units don’t allow pets. You should check with your landlord, before bringing a new pet home, just to have to return it to the shelter or previous owner a few days or weeks later.
Some larger breeds of dogs will need lots of exercise. If you are the type of person that goes jogging on the greenbelt every day, this might not be a problem. However, if you work in the office all day, there is no sizable fenced yard, and nobody is home all day, your new large breed dog will  be miserable.
There are lots of dogs at shelters that would love for you to stop by once in a while and take them for a long walk at your own convenience!

  • Your new pet may not get along with the current one, or certain people in your household

Pet shelters are a great place to pick up pets. The volunteers often notice certain pets’ behaviors in presence of others and can tell you whether the new dog will get along with cats, or whether that male feline adoptee will spray in presence of other male cats.
Some animals have a history of abuse by certain people and will refuse to get along with such persons. One may prefer female owners to males. Some will love kids and some may despise them.

  • Getting a breedable pet versus one that is neutered or spayed

It’s great to buy a $500 purebred puppy, breed the living daylights out of it, as soon as it is mature enough and make a lot of extra cash. I prefer giving a home to a mixed breed pet who has lost its owner and needs a little TLC, which I am definitely willing to give! Pet shelters provide animals a new home at relatively low fees ($50-$80 in smaller towns, a bit higher in metropolitan areas) that cover neutering and spaying, as well as first shots. You wont have to worry about new puppies that will end up in careless homes or back in the shelter. Mixed breeds often have a better temper or more versatile traits than some pure-bred animals, as well.

This female Pit-mix puppy wagged her tail so hard against a door when she first met me, she got it totally bloodied up in all the excitement. I visited her again today, being greeted with many joyful licks, and the lady from the pet shelter allowed me to name her. I called her "Ember" thinking of her color resembling the low-burning remains of a fire. I would love to adopt her, but not before I have found a house suitable to have a large dog. If she finds an owner sooner, I hope she'll have a loving home. Until I know, I will keep hoping she'll be mine in a few months... :)
Now that you have a better idea of what a great difference you can make in an abandoned animal's life, what are you going to do? =)

5.8 Magnitude Virginia Earthquake!

Here's some more info on today's unexpected earthquake... http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/Maps/US10/32.42.-85.-75_eqs.php
Evidently both the White House and the Pentagon were evacuated for this puppy. The quake was felt from Canada all the way down to the South.

Interestingly no one told me anything about the 5.3 Colorado earthquake only about 12 hours sooner than the VA one... hmmm
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eqinthenews/

Per this map you can almost draw a line along the latitude....http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/ - oh and the CO quake was at 4 km depth while the VA one was at 6km... both VERY shallow!

The more I look at it, a lot of recent larger magnitude earthquakes since beginning of August have been along the 37th latitude, and shallow earthquakes usually are connected with plate movement and cause more damage than deep ones... quite interesting...

Dreamscapes

I am very intuitive. My dreams sometimes end up being premonitions. I told people what I dreamed about and hours, days or months later, I was made aware that what I had dreamed, became reality. I also have lucid dreams. Lucid dreams are those in which you can consciously take action to change to outcome of a dream situation. I have had real-time dreams that reflected real-time happenings with real people miles away from me. I confirmed those things right after waking up, minutes after they actually happened.
The mind is a strange thing. Everybody can perceive things at least as well as me, but most people write dreams off as just being imaginary, creations of the brain, maybe based on past experiences or fears of the future.

I believe that in a dream state, the mind gains access to different levels of consciousness, hidden knowledge, maybe even different dimensions. It is most interesting that the brain cannot tell the difference between being awake and being in a dream, for the most part. The physical and emotional reflexes both states of consciousness cause in the body are identical. To me, that means that dreams are simply our mind on a different (higher) plane of reality.

A person that doesn't dream, or complete R.E.M. phases, will not survive long-term. The stress on a body deprived of the ability to rest in sleep paralysis while letting the mind perceive and process thoughts, is too great! I have been there. I had to wake up straight from the last R.E.M. phase and get up out of sleep paralysis, which the body creates temporarily to prevent you from sleep walking and hurting yourself, and go to work at 4:30am... I found myself suffering from shift workers sleep disorder... my body just could not adjust to the schedule I was on - and it hurt me bad. I got depressed. I just about feel asleep on my commute and at work. I literally became debilitated for a while. Eventually my schedule changed and it was a life saver!

Back to dreams. If dreams weren't important, we wouldn't have them. And why are dreams symbolic a lot of times? My daughter dreamed of a two-tailed wolf a bit back, and neither her nor I have ever seen such a mutation or heard of it. It also makes me think of St John's dreams in the Book of Revelation in the Holy Bible. Why would our mind come up with such weird images, all by itself? Are dreams messages from the spirit world we just chose to ignore most of the time? It's possible...

Nurturing REAL Friendships

I wrote earlier that I have taken some time to nurture friendships that are important to me. I have always been a good friend to people I care about. I have received calls and literal cries for help and went to friends houses in as little as 5 minutes. I take my friendships VERY seriously! But often, in the past, my commitment to help people borderlined self-sacrifice. And people not only used, but abused my goodwill. That type of friendship is one-sided. It isn't "real".

The friendships that I now try to nurture, are those that are mutually benefiting. They bring harmony to all friends involved. For the first time in a long time, I have friends that will share their home, their food, their advice, their feelings and activities and other friends with me, without asking anything in return. Just the same way I have always acted toward others. These friends are rare and few in between. Most of those rare friends I have live hours away from me. Now, I have a few that are close-by, yet again.

I finally feel like I belong to a circle of friends once more that values my presence, and what I do and say, just for the fact that I am being me, and that they enjoy me being around. I so appreciate that! I hadn't been told AND shown in a long time that I am being loved for who I really am. And indeed, I can be myself with them. I don't have to walk around as if on egg-shells, just because I might offend someone or because they might feel that I am weird. It gives me a strong sense of freedom and belonging... two major human desires! Being able to be yourself in the midst of others is so powerful! It builds trust, because there is truth in what you do and say! It's the greatest asset in any relationship. "You cannot consistently act in a way that is inconsistent with who you really are", as Zig Ziglar would say. However, if you are yourself, others will know and appreciate it. It is even more powerful, when you are yourself in kindness! Knowing that a friend has your back, and you have theirs, even in tough times, creates a wonderful bond! If you can go months without talking, because life gets busy, and then come right back to another 4 hr conversation - that's so awesome! To get hugs when you need them - God I love it!

I love you so much, my REAL friends! You know who you are!

Stage Fright.....Just a Symptom of Something Else

I used to be really shy... so shy that I would not easily walk up to people to talk, or make friends easily. I remember a time when my American (now Ex-) husband asked me to call the Air Force base in Germany to inquire about something (I am a German-American citizen). I was so afraid to make a mistake speaking English that he had to push me so hard to do it that I broke out in tears...
Later, in America, I had a hard time bringing up the courage to apply for jobs, but I slowly became a little more confident and started working part-time and interacting with people more. Eventually I got into retail management and sales, then another position as a manufacturing technician making microchips. I took on great responsibility, working with engineering and saving my company thousands of Dollars, preventing manufacturing defects, that would not have been discovered otherwise, and suggesting process improvements. Unfortunately, that company went out of business. I needed to look for something else, and one day, my former spouse drove me to a local call center to apply there. I ended up working in that call center for almost 8 years and I became a much more confident people person. Still, it wasn't quite the confident person I am today.

Stage fright had always been an issue for me. I love to sing, and not bad either, and I love to share opinions and advice, but getting in front of people to speak or sing, scared the living daylights out of me. I still get very nervous. I found that it's not because of the people, or necessarily the information or song being presented, not even the fear of making mistakes, but the fear of rejection!

Just a couple of weeks ago, I agreed to join friends in going to a karaoke bar. My friends know I love to sing, and that I am at least somewhat talented. I finally I came to the conclusion that it doesn't matter, if other people like what you have to say or what you want to present. It does, however, matter what you think of yourself, and whether you can overcome your own insecurities! Being able to go out there and be yourself, carry yourself well and look people in the eyes creates such a sense of freedom! What's even more interesting, is that once I got over my fear of rejection, I no longer sang halfheartedly, but out loud and with passion! I sounded SO much better! LOL When I made a mistake with the lyrics, I started laughing and just kept going. People joined me in singing, and the crowd cheered. Most of all I cheered inside! I no longer felt that I would be rejected, regardless of whether I made mistakes. I made it happen, not the crowd!

And life is the same way. We have to take action and MAKE things happen - and not let things happen TO us! We have to take that leap of faith! I once heard a saying: "God pushes us to the edge, to see how strong we are. And sometimes he pushes us over the edge, just so we see that we can soar like an eagle!" It is so true! A lot of times it's the fear of fear. We are worried based on the assumption that we might fail. But we may not fail at all! The only wrong step is the one you don't take. Don't let fear hold you back!

Sick and Tired

There always seems to come a time when you worked so much, stressed too much and supported all kinds of worthy causes that you just need a break! Today I woke up dizzy, with sinus trouble and my daughter isn't feeling well either. My son is at a friend's house for a sleepover. I realize that in the past 2 weeks I have spent 8 nights at a friend's house, partially because I volunteered for BRV and it's an hours drive home, just to come back for a 2nd cleanup. Partially, because I needed time to nurture a friendship that is very important to me. In between I worked with kids with disabilities every day, which has been a little rough lately, because there is a lot going on in those kids life, which makes my work a lot more challenging. They also have been sick, and I could have caught a bug from them. My finances aren't what they should be and I am trying to get out of my apartment into a home and time is running out... a lot of stress, to put it in a nutshell.
People can be strong for a very long time, but at some point they just need some rest! Stress is my greatest enemy, and when it starts affecting me physically, I know sleep, quiet time and good food are the only option to get back on track, besides writing. So I am taking the day off to spend with my daughter, vegging out, eating well and getting a few things taken care of that will ease my mind.
I think I need a drastic change in my life; so I am looking at this as building up new strength for the coming days. School is starting on Thursday and life will only get harder for a while, but I am optimistic that everything will resolve itself, once I am back up to par.

Just a short one... What I learned from the movie "Prom"

I've been a little busy, but have several new posts in the works =)

Just had to take a break and watch a teen flick haha!

What I learned from the movie "Prom":
  • Take the memories of meaningless relationships off your mirror - and u will finally see yourself! =)
  • Don't judge people by what you hear about them, or by what they look like, not even by what they say - but by their actions, especially when disaster strikes!
  • Further, even when it all looks bleak and you feel alone, do it anyway...!
  • Friendship and good family ties are worth more than love, but love completes both!
  • Dishonesty never pays. Much rather it bites you in the butt every time!
  • It makes a hell of an impression when you prove 'em all wrong! Winner!
  • Be yourself and have fun, no matter who you are and what you look like - everybody will like you better that way!
  • Sometimes it takes until the end of the night before all works out the way it should!
  • Also - I need to buy and wear more dresses lol! Guys seem to dig it!

Ways to Deal with Negative Emotions

Negative Emotions don’t just make you miserable, but also all those people you come into contact with. They can result in depression, drug and alcohol abuse and separation from friends and family. Misery seeks company as they say…

I found several ways to help me overcome negative mindsets and attitudes.

MUSIC

Music has always been a great way for me to handle setbacks. Song writers, since the beginning of time, have created lyrics that stemmed from their own experiences. There is nothing more powerful than knowing that you are not the only one that has gone through a lot of bad stuff! When I feel sad or mad I turn up the music and sing out loud. I chose songs that relate most closely to my current life situation.

CHANGE OF SURROUNDINGS

Sometimes you just have to get out of the house or away from a situation that seems to drive you insane. Maybe meeting up with a friend for a coffee or taking the kids to the park will help get you mind of negative things for a while. Maybe a simple walk at night and looking at the stars will help you clear you head a bit and focus on more positive and beautiful things in life.

FREE-WRITING

One of my favorite things to do is to just write my thoughts off my soul, not even thinking about what I write; just getting it out of my mind and onto the paper! If I am fairly composed I actually write poems, essays and rap songs, believe it or not! J. Most of the time it helps me to rearrange my  thoughts and refocus. That way I go from an overwhelmed state of mind to calm and ready to change my situation. Perfect!

PARADIGM-SHIFT

A Paradigm-Shift happens when you manage to change your perspective on life’s situations. Occasionally we just need to see things from a different angle in order to make sense out of it…
For instance, you just cut your finger, but then you hear that your friend just has a severe car accident and is in the hospital. How lucky you are! You hurt a bit, but you can use your hand, feed yourself, adhere to your own schedule and sleep in your own bed without frequent interruptions by nurses. So hey, you are much better off than your friend, right?! Go visit and see if you can cheer/her up a bit!

REVERSE-THINKING

I once heard about a method that ended up helping me to get out of a depression years ago. The method consists out of writing all kinds of persistent negative thoughts on one side of a piece of paper.  When finished, you look at your paper and try and come up with a similar, but totally opposite, positive statement.
You try and memorize the list of negative versus positive statements and whenever you find yourself in a negative thought process, you simply tell yourself “stop” and recall the fitting positive statement to overpower the negative thought. Become a little rebellious in that aspect. Don’t let negative thinking hold you back. When You think: I will never get that - turn it around and say: I will learn hard and ask people questions, so that I get a better understanding! ;)

TALKING  TO TRUSTED FAMILY MEMBERS OR FRIENDS AND ASKING FOR HELP

Sometimes we cannot deal with our personal issues alone and refuse to ask for help. But there are so many people out there who love us and are more than happy to help. Asking doesn’t hurt. The worst you can get is a no, and the best that can happen is a good solution you would have never expected. Even just being able to talk to someone can make you feel a whole lot better that dwelling on your miserable circumstances.

EXERCISE OR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Physical activity increases endorphins in your body. Those “feel-good” hormones can quickly provide a calmer and better outlook on life and help you to focus. Go for a walk, start a new hobby with an activity partner or local group that engages in an active lifestyle, go to the gym or just turn on some music and dance while doing household chores. Anything that gets your heart pumping  for at least 30 mins works! =)

I hope these suggestions help! If you have any other ideas, please feel free to share!

My Scorpio Self

I believe that our birth date and our zodiac sign can say a lot about us. That doesn't mean I believe in horoscopes. They are only something I look at for entertainment value. However, the characteristics of a Scorpio fit me so well that I can't deny its validity! =)

A Scorpio friend of mine has a great blog about Scorpios, and most every Scorpio I talked to will confirm the information on this page: Scorpio Venom!
Scorpios have got to be the most misunderstood sign in the zodiac, and I recommend you research that sign if you want to be friends with a Scorpio or even start a relationship with one!

I love Scorpio Season on Facebook, as well. You should look into joining/liking them!

More later.... =)

Shorty's Karaoke at Terry's State Street Saloon in Boise

Last weekend, a girlfriend of mine invited me to join her and other friends at Terry's State Street Saloon in Boise. I had a blast! The atmosphere was loaded with fun and the music was great, ranging from hip hop, pop, rock and alternative to country. KDJ Shorty is a riot, to say the least! He engages the audience like no other and sings karaoke like there is no tomorrow! If you're shy up on stage, he makes sure you feel as comfortable as possible and even assists with backup vocals.
There is no such thing as being bored at Terry's! If you don't want to sing, you can play pool on 2 tables or have a drink at the bar. The Swedish bartender Shel makes great drinks and is also fun to talk to, I noticed! My verdict: BEST place to be hanging with friends and singing karaoke Friday, Saturday and Monday!!! ;)

Shorty's Karaoke takes place 7 nights a week from 9pm-2am.
Terry's State Street Saloon is located at 3301 Collister Drive, Boise, Idaho

My Volunteer Work with Boise River Volunteers (BRV)

Boise River Volunteers or "BRV" is a non-profit, self-sponsored organization that cleans up the Boise and Payette Rivers in Idaho. We float the river over 11,000 hours each year on pontoon boats, paddle cats and rafts and stop to pick up trash alongside or in the stream. In the process, we literally rid the area of tons of recyclable garbage and make our environment cleaner and safer for us all! It's a blast for everyone involved!
Besides doing "cleanups", we also help floaters to fix air leaks and re-inflate their floating devices and boats when needed. If injuries occur, we are there to help, as well.

Our volunteers are widely diversified. We cover most every age, culture and income group. You are sure to make new friends on almost every float. Anyone can join, from kids to seniors. We even encourage the disabled to come with us and enrich their life by helping a good cause!

Throughout the year there are several fundraising events. Recently we manned the Kids Zones at Eagle Island Experience and Boise Beer Fest. Next Saturday, August 20,'11, there is going to be a BRV Fundraiser Car Wash in the car lot of Cabela's in Boise. Come and check us out while we wash your car!

We love donations of any kind that can help the cause. Whether it is money or items we can use on a float, we appreciate any help we can get! If you are part of a company, that would like to become a sponsor, we would like to hear from you!

Anyone, who's interested in helping and maybe becoming part of our team of volunteers, please sign up at www.riverhelpers.com and read more about us in our "About" section. You can also find us on Facebook - Boise River Volunteers, and follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/riverhelpers

I will write quite a few posts regarding Boise River Volunteers in future, so be sure to visit again to learn more about this great way to spend time with family and friends, while volunteering for a great cause!

Wonderful Junk Drawers...

I love my junk drawer! Every time I find something in my home that I can't classify as belonging into any particular spot, it goes into that drawer. After a while, when I need something and can't find it anywhere, I go to my junk drawer in the kitchen and - boom - there it is! Not to mention, that going through my junk drawer often yields unexpected treasures lol. So today I came across a package of shoe laces I've had in there forever, as it seems, and they were a perfect match for some older Converse shoes I own, because the ones, that were in the shoes were no longer doing their job, because they were tied together in hard knot I just couldn't pry apart.
Of course, you will think that a junk drawer seems like a messy alternative to putting stuff somewhere in a more organized fashion, but I just love digging through my "junk" and finding stuff I really didn't need when it was thrown in there, and get inspired by other stuff I see. I guess it must be the treasure hunter in me - it takes a little more effort to find stuff, but in the end it's kind of rewarding. My kids like the concept, as well!
