5.8 Magnitude Virginia Earthquake!

Here's some more info on today's unexpected earthquake... http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/Maps/US10/32.42.-85.-75_eqs.php
Evidently both the White House and the Pentagon were evacuated for this puppy. The quake was felt from Canada all the way down to the South.

Interestingly no one told me anything about the 5.3 Colorado earthquake only about 12 hours sooner than the VA one... hmmm

Per this map you can almost draw a line along the latitude....http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/ - oh and the CO quake was at 4 km depth while the VA one was at 6km... both VERY shallow!

The more I look at it, a lot of recent larger magnitude earthquakes since beginning of August have been along the 37th latitude, and shallow earthquakes usually are connected with plate movement and cause more damage than deep ones... quite interesting...
